Brain in a Bag

I'm getting ready to start up the nervous system soon, and thought I'd share this intro activity that never fails to excite the students.  Use hot water, and it will have the  same approx.temp, color, consistency, and size as a real human brain!

Brain in a Bag

1.5  (360 ml) cups instant potato flakes

2.5 (600 ml) cups hot water

2 (480 ml) cups clean sand

1 gallon ziplock bag

Combine all of the ingredients in the ziplock bag and mix thoroughly.  The resultant mix will have the same approximate volume and weight (around 3 lbs) and consistency of a real adult human brain.  For best effect, mold it into a brain-like shape and pass it around the room!  It can re-warmed in a microwave for later classes
