Use "Shake It Up" by the Cars for students to shake a 2 Liter
bottle with about 4 cm of sand blasting sand in the bottom where they measure
the temp of the sand before shaking & see that after 3:33 of shaking, the
temperature rises (mechanical energy to thermal).

I have the kids pretend they are molecules in three phases of matter
and then "increase the temperature" through music changes. They
go from wriggling molecules in a crystal lattice to running around the
room.
