Ethical Issues HW

Newest assignments are at the top

5. Answer the following question on the moodle discussion page: What would constitute justice today for the survivors of the Tuskegee Syphillis study.  Be specific in your suggestions and your justifications.  You may find that a little research on this would be helpful.  The CDC (Centers for Disease Control, a government agency) has a a few good pages on the Tuskegee case.

Please post your response on the Ethical Issues Moodle site.  If you still need to enroll in the course, follow the instructions on the page and enter "Justice" when prompted for the enrollment key.  It is case sensitive so be sure the "J" is capitalized.

4. Read the "Tuskeegee Case"  and answer the questions at the end of the packet.  Also...please sign up for the Moodle site for this class at http://www.ecfs-online.org > Fieldston Middle (yes, it is in the wrong area) School > Ethical issues in science.  You will need an enrollment key to join the class.  The key word is "justice".

#3 Read the packet from The Socrates Cafe.  Highlight and annotate key techniques for facilitating discussions.

#2 Email me and say something about yourself.  Interests, hobbies, likes/dislikes, anything you feel like sharing.  Also, finish listening to the morality podcast online: http://www.wnyc.org/stream/ram?file=/radiolab/radiolab042806pod.mp3

You can also get it through iTunes>podcasts>categories>science and medicine>radiolab

Write up an answer to this question based on the podcast and our class discussions: What would ultimately be better for the human race: if morality was learned or if it was hardwired into our brains (nature vs. nurture)?  Justify your answer with evidence and examples.

#1: find a recent (2007) article that addresses what you would consider an ethical issue in science.  Summarize what the key ethical question is in 2-3 sentences and type it out with the citation for the article.  Bring in the article as well.
