The Subjunctive in Adverbial Clauses

Review the adverbial conjunctions of time and purpose:

ESCAPA A

    Always use the subjunctive.

    If there is no que use the infinitive

    En caso de que :in case

    Sin que without

    Con tal de que provided that

    A fin de que so that

    Para que so that

    A menos que unless

    Antes de que

before

CAMELoT

    Use the subjunctive if the action, condition or event that is expressed in the dependent clause is pending.

    Use the indicative if the action, condition or event is viewed as habitual, or has been completed.

    Never use the infinitive with CAMELoT.

    Cuando when

    Aunque even though

    Mientras que while

    En cuanto as soon as

    Luego que as soon as

    o

    Tan pronto como

as soon as

    Use the subjunctive if the action, condition or event that is expressed in the dependent clause is pending.

    Use the indicative if the action, condition or event is viewed as habitual, or has been completed.

    If there is no que, HD3 takes the infinitive.
