Our Journey Begins...

It's literally the 11th hour and the preparations are in place for the group to head to New Orleans. This last week of preparation was unbelievable and tomorrow we are ready to roll! While the focus for me has been on helping to organize the trip, I put my anticipation of going to New Orleans in the back of my mind, not sure what emotions I would experience once I got there, or even now as I sit in front of the computer writing this piece. In a recent conversation with a colleague, I remember saying that once you have lived in New Orleans and experienced it, there is something about this special and unique city in the United States that lingers in your soul for the rest of your life. The people who live there are a large part of what make it New Orleans, and I hope the collective efforts of many will help them come home sooner.  I know that the students who travel down this week, along with the many college students spending their Spring Breaks all along the Gulf Coast region to aid others,  will truly have one of those experiences that last them a life time.

Last week we asked the students to each define "community." They placed their responses in an envelope and will revisit what they wrote at the end of the week.  What is your definition of community?--ChiaChee
