A long day

Cowen Talk: President Scott Cowen of Tulane University speaks to our group about the role of Tulane University in the city of New Orleans. The rebuilding work at Tulane University costs the school $250 million dollars and re-opened January 17. About 90% of the undergraduates returned to Tulane after a semester at other institutions across the country.

We made it to New Orleans and met President Cowen. He gave us an idea of the enormity of the task and the leadership role Tulane University has taken in the recovery work.

We attended a panel discussion hosted by Tulane For the many college groups in town. I think we were the only high school group there. The panelist represented a cross section of New Orleans residents: college students from Xavier University, a former New Orleans teacher, a contractor, a  Vietnamese woman who runs a non-profit, and a Geology prof at Tulane.

Since we at at a youth hostel, we do not have easy Internet access, so we will work from the pocket PC's we brought along. The students have been phenomenal.
