The World of Music

The Eighth grade World of Music course is for students who desire to fulfill their middle school music requirement learning about music through classroom group discussions, projects, and reports rather than participating in a performance ensemble. Generally the class is for students who have decided not to continue with music in high school. Students will focus on their questions about the broader world of music and their desires to learn about it. This will center around developing active listening skills through recordings, videos, class discussions, and student presentations while learning about the evolvement of fine art music, opera, jazz, rock and roll, popular, and world music styles. Regular participation in projects and class presentations is expected. Maturity in classroom activities and individual responsibility are emphasized.
